Soft Tissue Tumours of the Oral Cavity
- Irritation fibroma — the most common benign oral soft-tissue overgrowth (reactive).
- Pyogenic granuloma — vascular, bleeds easily; the 'pregnancy tumour' (epulis gravidarum) when hormone-related.
- Peripheral giant cell granuloma — occurs only on the gingiva/alveolar ridge; bluish-purple.
- Kaposi sarcoma — HHV-8; associated with HIV/AIDS.
- Hemangioma — most common in infancy (vascular).
Approach
Most reactive lesions are managed by excision + removing the irritant; biopsy confirms diagnosis.
