Traumatic Dental Injuries
Patterns
The most common injury to permanent teeth is crown fracture; in primary teeth, luxation injuries predominate (alveolar bone is more elastic).
Avulsion (Permanent Tooth)
- Replant as soon as possible — best prognosis within ~30 minutes.
- Storage media if delay: HBSS/specialised media > cold milk > saliva/saline. Don't store dry.
- Splint ~2 weeks (flexible) for avulsion; do not replant avulsed primary teeth.
Management Principles
Assess pulp status and root development; follow up for resorption/ankylosis.
Exam Tips ⭐
Replant avulsed permanent tooth within 30 min; storage: milk > saliva > saline; splint 2 weeks; never replant primary teeth.
